2005, of the Puntius exclamatio paper, states that hitherto there are only 2 species in the filamentosus complex that has the mouth in the inferior position, i.e. P. srilankensis and P. assimilis. But the former seems to have restricted locality, being endemic to only Sri Lanka. More
