Cardinal Woodpecker - Like other woodpeckers, this species has a straight pointed bill, a stiff tail to provide support against tree trunks, and zygodactyl or “yoked" feet, with two toes pointing forward, and two backward. The long tongue can be darted forward to capture insects.

 

Gabon Woodpecker - The form lugubris, breeding from Sierra Leone east to Nigeria, is sometimes split as a separate species, the Melancholy Woodpecker, Dendropicos lugubris.

 

Stierling's Woodpecker - The Stierling's Woodpecker is a species of bird in the Picidae family. It is found in Malawi, Mozambique, and Tanzania. Its natural habitat is subtropical or tropical dry forests in the Eastern Miombo woodlands ecoregion. It is threatened by habitat loss.
