Chir Pheasant

These birds lack the color and brilliance of most pheasants, with buffy gray plumage and long gray crests. Its long tail has 18 feathers and the central tail feathers are much longer and the colour is mainly gray and brown. The female is slightly smaller in overall size.

The Chir Pheasant is classified as Vulnerable (VU), considered to be facing a high risk of extinction in the wild.

The Chir pheasant is also unique amongst pheasants in that it behaves like a monal- monals are not pheasants by the way- Chir on the other hand are related to pheasants and shared a common ancestor with genuine pheasants. They inhabit cliff sides like a monal and behave a bit like an eared pheasant and bit like a peacock- they advertise their whereabouts with piercing calls but they are impossible to see even when standing on top of them.
