Malagasy Kingfisher

It is closely related to the Malachite Kingfisher which is widely distributed in mainland Africa.

The Malagasy Kingfisher is classified as Least Concern. Does not qualify for a more at risk category. Widespread and abundant taxa are included in this category.

The Malagasy Kingfisher is only 15cm from head to tail and very colourful: electric blue on top, orange underneath, white neck, red feet and a long black beak. Its flight is very fast and direct. It is an aquatic specie, solitary and a fierce predator. Its feeds on invertebrates like insects as well as on vertebrates such as frogs and fish. More
