The Sunda Frogmouth (Batrachostomus cornutus) is a species of bird, typically placed in the family Podargidae of the order Caprimulgiformes. But recent research suggests that the old order Podargiformes should be re-established, wherein like its closest relatives it might be better placed in a distinct family Batrachostomidae. It is found in Brunei, Indonesia, and Malaysia. Sunda Frogmouth as one was watched flying in above us only to disappear in the canopy, so typical of this difficult species. More

Frogmouth, next a Sunda Frogmouth showing just his head and tail either side of its overhead perch was nevertheless appreciated as this is perhaps the most difficult frogmouth owing to its canopy perching habits. Finally, after keeping us in suspense over several sorties a magnificent Large Frogmouth glided overhead then after a patient wait gave stupendous views as he perched close-by, posing and even calling as he sat in the spot-light. spotlighted a calling Sunda Frogmouth (albeit briefly) and were investigated by a superb Reddish Scops Owl. We even had time to fit in a fine Brown Hawk Owl that evening before bringing the Way Kambas nightbirding to a grand finale with a cute Gould's Frogmouth on our last morning. More
